Just a refresher, the NFL top 100 is a list of the top 100 players in the NFL voted on by the players. Although not all players were able to vote. The NFL is made up of roughly 1800 players, so just to be voted to this list means that you’re in the top 5 to 6% of the NFL. This list is also a reflection of last season’s performance and not of your overall career.
Lets take a look at numbers 90-81 that were just announced, with some various stats just for comparison (like i said before its a little hard to compare offense to defense).
90. Joe Flacco
16 starts, 3622 passing yards, 25 TDs, 10 ints, QB rating 93.6
89. Adrian Wilson
16 starts, 76 solo tackles, 2 ints, 2 sacks
88. Vernon Davis
16 starts, 56 rec, 914 yards, 7 TDs
87. Jordan Gross
16 starts
86. Josh Freeman
16 starts, 3,451 passing yards, 25 TDs, 6 ints
85.Jason Babin
16 starts, 44 solo tackles, 12.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles
84. Josh Cribbs
16 starts, 23 receptions, 292 yards. 1 TD
83. Mike Williams
16 starts, 65 receptions, 964 yards, 11 TDs
16 starts, 35 solo, 10 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 2 ints
81. B.J. Raji
16 starts, 29 solo tackles, 6.5 sacks
So, no Chargers in site for this part of the list, but I really have to wonder who the hell is doing the voting? What players are voting? After looking at this list Shaun Phillips got snubbed!
The voting seems a little flawed, you rate Josh Freeman over Joe Flacco? Granted he had a good year, but if its rated on performance from last year look who got to the playoffs. How can you rate Josh Cribbs this high or even put him on the list? He may be a special teams guy, but didnt do much last year. You take a look a Jason Babin (the seventh year wonder, almost a first round bust till this year), he had 2.5 more sacks more then Phillips but besides that not a better player, or better stats.
What does everyone think? Is it me or did Shaun Phillips get SNUBBEDin the voting. I hope its not just me. We will continue to watch to see what other Chargers made the list… Stay Tuned.
