After selecting Corey Leguit on day 1 in the draft, the Bolts were set to bolster up more of the team with their draft in day 2. Going into the day, there were the possibilities of selecting Akeem Ayers, Justin Houston, Da’Quan Bowers, Brandon Harris, Martez Wilson or Brooks Reed. The possibilities were mouth-watering!
AJ Smith quickly put a bad taste in our mouth! With the first pick on the day, the Chargers had a number of possibilities to choose from. Adam Schefter said that we picked Marcus Gilbert a HUGE O-lineman out of Florida. UNFORTUNATELY, he was wrong and we drafted db Marcus Gilchrist instead. Nothing against Gilchrist, but Gilbert would have been a better pick and we could have chosen Wilson, Harris, BOWERS, or Houston at that spot. They were all sitting there for the taking. Alright, so we just trust AJ and see what the next pick is.
With the 61st pick, we select WHAT!?!? Jonas Mouton?!?! Was that the outfielder for the Houston Astros? Wilson and Houston were still available at the selection and AJ decided to go with a player that was projected to get drafted in the 4th round at the highest? Why are we drafting for special teams players? If we are going to do that, then shouldn’t we draft a kicker that can make kicks in the playoffs? Mouton is a project and there were better options at linebacker at the time of the choice.
AJ finally made some local fans smile in the third round by selecting SDSU wide receiver Vincent Brown. Brown will be part of a good pass catching crew and will get to work with Vincent Jackson and Antonio Gates. He will be fun to watch.
Overall, it was a SHOCKING draft day 2 and we will all be watching with skepticism. Hope these players will step up and we will see how reactions change after getting s day to digest the mess.
What do you guys think of Day 2?
