What if Bob Sanders asks to wear Number 21?

Bob Sanders wore the number 21 in Indianapolis and the number 21 in San Diego will always be connected with Charger great LaDainian Tomlinson.

So, what if Sanders asks to wear the number 21 here? It is not common for NFL teams to retire numbers and the Chargers only have the number 14 for Dan Fouts and the number 19 for Lance Alworth retired. LT’s number is definitely worth retiring, but if Malcom Floyd is allowed to wear Kellen Winslow‘s number 80, then I say go ahead and let Bob sport the number 21 with pride.

It definitely will be awkward to look out on the field and see the number 21 running around on defense. Best case scenario, Bob just says that he respects LT too much to wear the number and chooses to go with something else.

I’m a long time chargers fan and do have a lot of respect for LT. Just because I see an other player on the team with that number won’t make me think that Sanders or anyone else had no respect for LT. In my personal opinion, i think that anyone who does wear LT’s number from this point on probably has a lot of respect for LT. They have the expectation of what the number has done on the team and they just have to live up to. Also LT isn’t going to retire with the chargers since he was traded to the jets. If Sanders wants to wear 21 he is completely entitled to it.

OK.. its true, players may want to wear the number 21 because they do LOVE what he has done, BUT still say it would be awkward to see another number 21 out there running around on defense.

side note: LT was cut and chose to sign with the Jets and I do see him retiring as a Charger when it is all said and done, unless the Jets win a championship with him.

Michael Jordan finished his career with the Washington Wizards but will always be a Chicago Bull.

The Hitman wore #33 at Iowa. It’s not like he’s always been #21.

Maybe he could wear no. 21-D?
