AJ Hawk back with Pack, now Nick Barnett available option for Bolts

A.J. Hawk sat in the unemployment line for just a day before the Pack gave him a new 5-year deal. With Hawk now returning, it could lead to Nick Barnett‘s departure. Barnett is being shopped around by the Pack and if they cannot find a team to partner up with, he may be released.

The Chargers are a possible destination for the veteran middle linebacker. The Chargers have openings at the position with both starters Stephen Cooper and Kevin Burnett entering free agency. The Bolts hope to bring back Burnett, but Cooper may have seen his last days with the blue and yellow. So that would open up a perfect landing spot for a Burnett and Barnett duo in the middle.

Barnett suffered a wrist injury last season that ended his season early. He has been productive throughout his career, collecting over 100 tackles in 6 of his 8 seasons. He is a monster in the middle and would provide veteran leadership to the middle of the defense.

In a chat session with fans, Barnett answered the question “what is your favorite stadium to play in, other than Lambeau and why?”

His response:

San Diego, because it gives my family in california and opportunity to go to the game. It’s nice playing in front of them and seeing them after the game. – Nick Barnett

Let’s bring over another impact player to the defensive side of the ball! Would love to see a Burnett-Barnett middle linebacker tandem! Let’s see if AJ Smith goes out and makes another BOLD move for our defense.

That would be a trade worth making!! I saw him play last year 2009-2010 against several teams…Rodgers was my fanatasy QB and watched many of the Packer games.Barnett is the real deal..He led the Pack what 3 years in tackles. He might over persue at times but that due to the agressive play. The Bolts should get him. Packers would probably need only a third round pick even though he was a #1 pick for them. GET HIM!!!!!!!!!!

im thinking a 3rd round pick might be able to pick him up also! we already have 2, so we can just trade one of them and it would be an awesome move.

Bob Sanders and Nick Barnett!! would be a sick defense!
