Steve Wilks Promoted to Assistant Head Coach-Secondary

The San Diego Chargers promoted their secondary coach, Steve Wilks, to assistant head coach-secondary. Rob Chudzinski held the assistant head coach position before he took the offensive coordinator position with the Carolina Panthers.

Steve has done an outstanding job with our secondary since he’s been here and now we’re going to be asking even more of him – Norv Turner

I’m excited about the opportunity, it’s a chance for me to grow and expand my abilities and gain valuable experience. – Steve Wilks

Honestly, I have no idea what the difference will mean for him. I am sure that it will give him more visibility around the league and could possibly make him a candidate for any possible defensive coordinator positions that open up in the future. I like the fact that it is a defensive guy that was placed into the position in order to try and “assist” our head coach.
