Aaron Rodgers for Phil Rivers?

You are Chargers GM AJ Smith and you’re at next week’s NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.  You and Packers GM Ted Thompson decide to grab dinner.  Both of you have a few cocktails at the bar beforehand and a few more during.  You’re both in a food coma from eating too much good food and you’re both Nicholas Cage-Leaving Las Vegas f’d up.  After dinner you guys go to the hotel bar to smoke cigars and drinks some snifters and Thompson turns to you and says:

“You know what would be fun? If I traded you Aaron Rodgers and you traded me Phil Rivers.”

You laugh it off as a joke but Thompson says he’s serious and gets his assistant on the phone to call the trade into the league.  Do you call your assistant, pull the trigger and trade Phil Rivers for Aaron Rodgers?

Dick's Sporting Goods presents "Hell Week":

two words… HELL NO!!! Obviously many will say Rodgers is better than Rivers b/c he’s now won a Super Bowl but I would still take rivers over Rodgers any day of the week. River WILL lead the Chargers to a Super Bowl in my opinion, its simply a matter of time…

really Jim? Tell me what Philip Rivers can do that Aaron Rodgers can’t?

      • tony

that’s what i figured. eat crow you don’t know anything about football.

Throw to pretty much ANY receiver that shows up.

I have to agree with you Jim, Rivers is a fit in this system because of what he has around him, Rodgers receiver Core is way better than ours, so rivers would be good in greenbay but rodgers with the chargers wouldn’t work ImO because he would have to work hard to win games and that is passing to everyone on the team

Absolutely. Rodgers is as clutch as they come, despite his records in close games, he always has had a drive to put his team tied for the lead or ahead in the 4th quarter of every game they’ve lost by 7 points or less. Rivers has always done well in the regular season, but we have yet to see him not only perform well in the playoffs but against quality opponents as well. He seems to struggle against top defenses while Rodgers seems to excel even that much more. Rodgers seems to be more of an injury threat with his concussions. Both have shotty running games, but overall Phil has probably had the upper hand in that category, whil Rodgers has had better receivers. Phil has had better protection however. At the end of the day, a lombardi trophy and superbowl mvp would be nice hardware to have, and id take Aaron for those awards, not because he has already done it, but because, as he said after the superbowl, he wasnt nervous because of his preperation, and i dont think Phil is as dedicated to perfecting his craft as much as Rodgers is.

From a Chargers perspective you jump at this trade in a heartbeat, from the Packers you turn and run. Rivers is good but he hasn’t done anything yet. Rodgers is just as good of passer if not better, plus he’s more mobile. From a pure QB standpoint, Rodgers is way better.
