Chargers vs 49ers Preview

Both teams have their backs up against the wall and are in a “DO or DIE” situation. The Chargers trail the first place Kansas City Chiefs by 1 game and the 49ers are 1 game back for first place in the NFC ‘Worst’. A loss for the Chargers will mean the end of their season and a win will continue the hope for a playoff berth.

Every game, from this point forward, is LIVE or DIE for the Chargers. They will need to come into this game with the same focus and drive that they had last week.

Antonio Gates will probably sit out this game again to rest his bad feet another week. The Chargers still have plenty of weapons with Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd stretching the field. Mike Tolbert, Ryan Mathews, and Darren Sproles will have to escape the tackles of LB Patrick Willis and LB Takeo Spikes. Both Willis and Spikes will be wearing casts in the game, but they will be all over the field and the Chargers lineman will need to put them in the ground. Jacob Hester will have to continue knocking people down and making holes for his running backs.

The Chargers are 6-0 when Philip Rivers throws less than 30 passes in a game. We will definitely have to get the running game going and take the pressure off of Philip. If we are able to get an early lead, then we should be able to run the ball and run the clock out.

The Chargers defense will have to slow Vernon Davis and the 49er offense. The Chargers have historically had problems covering the tight ends and they will have to slow down one of the best in the league. Antonio Garay will need to continue manhandling the offensive line and get a hold of RB Brian Westbrook. Westbrook is especially dangerous when he catches passes out of the backfield and has a lot of space to work with.

Linebackers Antwan Barnes and Shaun Phillips will need to put pressure on QB Alex Smith. Force him to make some poor choices with the football and force some turnovers.

The field will be a little wet and the game is just gonna be a battle of 2 desperate football teams! The teams will be laying it all on the line and making that push for the playoffs! LETS GO BOLTS!!!
