Around the AFC West

The San Diego Chargers have to do a little scoreboard watching around the league, since they need some help to make it into the playoffs. The Chargers are in second place in the AFC West and trail Kansas City by a game. They came into Sunday tied with the Oakland Raiders for second place and Oakland holding all the tie breakers for the playoff spot.

Here is a look at what happened around the AFC West:

Kansas City ChiefsI am sure that you all know what happened to the Chiefs this weekend. Just in case you are living under a rock, we dominated the Chiefs this weekend and moved within a game of the division lead. The Chiefs have to play St. Louis, Tennessee, and Oakland down the stretch and we all are hoping for a Chiefs loss somewhere in there.Oakland RaidersThe Oakland Raiders had to head out to Jacksonville to face the Jaguars in an intense battle. There was a playoff feel in the game and the Oakland Raiders need to keep pace with the San Diego Chargers and try to gain ground on the Kansas City Chiefs. The Jacksonville Jaguars needed to stay a game up on the Indianapolis Colts to hold their lead in the division. The game was intense with all the stars showing up big for the game. Maurice Jones Drew led the Jags to victory in the end and now the Oakland Raiders will need a lot of help to have any sort of chance to make it in the playoffs. The Raiders are now sitting with a 6-7 record, 2 games out of first place and only 3 games to play.

Wild Card Leaders:New York JetsThe Chargers are still in the hunt for a wild card spot and the New York Jets hold onto one of those spots at this time. The Jets faced a Miami Dolphins team that is hoping for a possible playoff berth as well. The game was a defensive struggle and the Jets were only able to put up 2 field goals on the scoreboard. They now drop down to 9-4 and hold a 2 game lead for that playoff spot at this time. Teams like Miami, Indianapolis, and San Diego will be watching their next 3 games closely. Their last 3 games will be against Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Buffalo. Can they choke away their playoff spot?

Baltimore RavensThe Ravens play the Houston Texans tonight and need to keep their 2 game lead on the wild card spot with a victory. If they were to falter, than they would drop to a 1 game lead on that spot with games against New Orleans, Cleveland, and Cincinnati remaining on the schedule. We will all be Texans fans tonight.

Outlook: The Chargers will need to take care of their own business and win out the remaining 3 games that they have on their schedule to have a chance. They will just hope that they get some help down the road from some other team. Their best shot into the playoffs would be by winning the division, since they are only 1 game behind the division leading Chiefs. The Bolts have to face the 49ers on a short week and San Francisco has some playoff hopes as well. It will be an intense matchup of 2 teams fighting for a playoff berth.
