Buffalo has claimed LB Shawne Merriman. He has five days to report to Buffalo; plans to for now. He is not expected to play Sunday vs. Chic. – Adam Schefter

Shawne “Lights Out” Merriman will play the rest of the season for the 0-7 Buffalo Bills. The Bills claimed him off waivers at 1pm and will have to pay the remainder of his contract. Buffalo GM Buddy Nix was an assistant with the Chargers from 2001-2008 and had a hand in bringing Merriman over to the Chargers.

Nix must be working towards the future and thinking about the possibility of resigning Merriman at the end of the season. The Bills are no longer in contention and would be working just to get their first win on the season. Merriman would be playing in a 3-4 scheme that he is familiar with and will be looking to regain his Pro Bowl level form. This will give Merriman the opportunity to get some playing time and prove that he can still be a force in this league.
