In news around the league, the Minnesota Vikings made a move to get WR Randy Moss from the New England Patriots for a 3rd round draft pick. Randy Moss will now join Brett Favre and the passing offense that was sputtering for the first few weeks of the season.
Could this open up another door for Vincent Jackson? The Patriots now have 2 picks in the first 4 rounds of the 2011 draft. Here is the picks that they have:
1st Round (OAK – Richard Seymour)
2nd Round (CAR – 2010 3rd Round)
3rd Round (MIN – Randy Moss)
4th Round (DEN – Laurence Maroney)
6th Round (NO – David Thomas)
The asking price of 2 high draft picks has been known around the league for Vincent Jackson. The Patriots now have easier capability to pull a trade of 2 draft picks for the Pro-Bowl receiver.
The Patriots are now left without a number 1 receiver and Vincent Jackson could provide them that deep threat. Jackson would open up the middle of the field for Wes Welker. Jackson is a Pro Bowl level receiver and is 6 years younger than Moss. Jackson could get that multi-year deal that he has been seeking.
Keep an eye out for a possible trade to happen soon. Jackson needs to be placed on a roster so that his roster exemption ‘suspension’ of 3 games can start. The Chargers play the Patriots in week 7 and would not play against their old receiver this season if he were traded over.
