VJax Not Traded, AJ Smith: Lord of No Rings

The trading window has past at 1pm today and a trade was NOT made for Vincent Jackson.

So what next? Expect Vincent Jackson to sit out the rest of the season. He will have to wait till next season for the big payday that he is looking for. The San Diego Chargers are not willing to offer the money that he wants.  The relationship between the two sides is turning ugly:

“Archie Manning had it right. They call (A.J. Smith) ‘The Lord of No Rings’ for a reason.” – Vincent Jackson’s agent Jonathan Feinsod

Here is text messages that were received from Vincent Jackson to Jason La Canfora of NFL network:

I just don’t understand why (a trade was not completed). “They obviously think i’m a valuable player by asking for such high trade compensation, but why am i only offered tender salary? “My agents and teams interested did everything to make it happen, but this organization stopped it. I just want to play football. It feels unethical and I am disappointed. – Vincent Jackson

General Manager A.J. Smith needs to pull a trigger on one of these deals to put this situation to rest. If there was a 2nd round pick available for the taking, then it is stupid not to take it. The most that the Chargers can get back if Jackson leaves in free agency is a 3rd round compensation pick.

What is A.J. Smith trying to prove? We already know that he a stubborn general manager but the reputation that he is trying to keep of a stubborn GM is getting in the way of his decision making. The only way that he can salvage this whole situation is to sign both restricted free agents: Vincent Jackson and Marcus McNeill to 1 year contracts and let them walk at the end of the season. What is the use of having “control” of a player when you do not have the intention to use them.  Either sign the players and give us the best opportunity to win a championship or trade them for something else. STOP HOLDING THE FANS HOSTAGE!

Nice work AJ. You win. Your prizes:
    1. Angry probowl WR who will not play for you again, ever.
    2. Angry fan base.
    3. No 2nd round Pick.
    4. Possible 3rd round pick next year but that depends on if VJ wants to even up and sign a strangely worded contract. You think he’ll remember you? You just took his 9 million dollar check and burned it up right in front of his face.
    5. Further entrenched your reputation as a stubborn GM. Only now your stubbornness went too far and you look like an grumpy old fool who doesn’t know when to say when.
    6. You wasted the time of everyone involved in the arbitration. People who sought to work something out that would benefit all parties.
    7. Future Free Agents will know your name now and I doubt they will want to play for the AJ Smith run Chargers. Good luck with that.

You lost AJ. No team made a stupid decision despite your best efforts to get them to bend over. Never trust a guy who demands a deal that he himself would NEVER touch with a 10 foot pole. Congratulations.

perfect post!! but dont take it out on the players and the team. We can still hate our GM but still root for our boys on the field that are in battle. Kinda like hating the president and still rooting for the guys that are at war… kinda … dont be an ex-chargers fan

Lord of No Rings is right. Brutal. Why not ship him and get something out of it, rather than get nothing for the year. As lame as this whole situation is, the Charger brass is making it even lamer. The window is too short for the Chargers to be messing around like this. Great post. I just promoted and voted it up on http://ballhyped.com/. Hype it up!
