Why are people trying to turn this into a running back controversy? We have 3 great backs that all offer different talents to the team and one has the potential to be GREAT!

Ryan Mathews - the rook has had a rough start to his career. He left his second game of his career with a twisted ankle and he has had a fumble in both games. He has shown the ability to break off a big run and just needs to settle down and gain his confidence. He needs to secure the ball and continue running hard. He was a little to anxious in preseason and was trying to hit the hole before his lineman were there. He has a great work ethic and has the potential to be a special back. Just give him a few weeks before you jump off the band wagon. Expect to see that potential shining through!

Mike Tolbert – The big back reminds me of Natrone Means. He runs hard and is a monster to bring down.  He runs faster than he looks too and will be a mean goal line threat. He should have been brought out in week 1 to score that touchdown from 4 yards out. If the injury to Mathews lingers, Tolbert showed that he could handle the starting role.  He works great late in the game as the bruising back when the defenders are tired from the grind of the game.

Darren Sproles – Mighty mouse just makes people miss. He should be used in the passing game more and use his ability in the open field. He runs the screen pass better than anybody in the league and is a mismatch against the linebackers. He is not an every down back and struggles to run between the tackles. Tired of Norv trying to squeeze him through the middle. Line him up in the slot and throw passes or run a reverse with him. He can take it to the house if you get him in the open field.
