Vincent Jackson: Destination TBD

Vincent Jackson is now available to play in week 5 if he is traded. Here are the rumored teams that are interested in him:

Minnesota Vikings: The Minnesota Vikings’ leading receiver, Sidney Rice, is out for a couple of months and Brett Favre needs a reliable target. Percy Harvin and Bernard Berrian showed nothing in Week 1 and they had trouble braking away from coverage. The Vikings are supposed to be a Super Bowl contender, but it looks like they are missing the go-to wide receiver. This team would be dangerous offensively with the addition of Jackson in the lineup. They already have one of the best running backs in Adrian Peterson and a legendary quarterback in Favre.

St. Louis Rams: Why wouldn’t they be interested? They were the worst team in the league last year and anything would be an upgrade to what they already have.  He would add to the young core that they are trying to build with number 1 pick, Sam Bradford, and running back Steven Jackson. It would be a huge boost to their offense and would get them one step closer to remaking “The Greatest Show on Turf.”

Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks have Mike Williams as their number 1 receiver! Who? Mike Williams enjoyed a great college career with Pete Carroll and is hoping to shine again under coach Carroll. We ripped them off in the offseason with a trade giving them Charlie Whitehurst and we hope to rip them off again.

Washington Redskins: Vincent Jackson worked out with Donovan McNabb in the off-season and they already have a relationship with each other. Donovan loves to go deep and Jackson would be the perfect target for him.

San Diego Chargers: Antonio Gates was double and triple teamed last week and would benefit having Vincent Jackson back. The other receivers on the team are still young and not established. I am sure that Philip would love to have him back also. Jackson will probably choose to sit out the season before signing the contract that the Chargers are offering him.

Where do you think that he will end up?

    Dear earnie,

First and foremost, the chargers need Vincent. It’s sad that AJ pride won’t let him offer Jackson a decent contract. I really hope he lowers his trade asking price and moves him. However, unless a team loses there number 1 this Sunday, I don’t see it happening. It’s just too bad that he would screw over charger fans just so he can see Vincent lose $7-$9 mil this year.

i absolutely hear ya!! Vincent Jackson’s absence was greatly missed this weekend. I wish he would be back on the team! He is a premiere receiver and makes the other receivers on the team better. I wish AJ would just pay the money.. .doesnt look likey though

Let me elaborate. I don’t feel any team at this point will give the chargers 2 consecutive 2nd round picks for Jackson. Aj could easily trade him for a second(2011) and a third or fourth(2012). However I feel Aj would rather think he is getting the last laugh by sitting him all season(vincent loses millions), and the chargers still get a 3rd round comp pick. Aj doesn’t lose in this scenario, only the fans do. The chargers will get less quality players out of the draft, and continue to be blacked out on tv. Then the chargers move to LA.

Secondly, it is impossible at this point to say wether the chargers or Seahawks got the better deal in their offseason trade. Just look at how volek looked in preseason.

I agree with everything you are saying with AJ…. AJ has a HUGE ego and the fans are pissed at him. We are tired of losing are best players for draft picks.
and the LA thing… im not ready to face the Los Angeles situation. Sickens me just thinking about not having a football team here!
Whitehurst was not going to take over for Voleck anytime soon. If you are looking at the preseason, Whitehurst wasnt so hot either. Time will definitely tell… he may get it straightened out.

With the contract volek received I agree. But to say we “ripped” off the Seahawks is ridiculous. The Seahawks had a huge need for a quality backup qb. Any many people think the Seahawks ultimately got the better deal. They swapped 2nd round picks, and ultimately the chargers had to trade it away to move up in first to get Mathews which many believe they could have done with their original 2nd round pick.

At the end the Seahawks get a quality backup qb, and the chargers get no second round pick, and the 3rd round pick next year.
