My glee was just shattered by anger when I found out what the Chargers gave up for the 12th overall pick. Just a few minutes ago, I loved the move. That is, of course, until now.
San Diego has given up the 28th pick of the first round AND the 8th pick of the second round to select Ryan Mathews with the 12th overall pick. Though it was a bit of a reach I was happy that I knew who would replace L.T. That is, until I found out we lost a high second round pick.
Now we wont be able to pick our nose tackle until the 27th pick of the third-freaking-round. For those of you who don’t want to do the math that’s 91st overall. To me that’s a downgrade from picking 28th and 40th. Now we pick 12th and 91st. As if things weren’t as suspenseful enough. Hopefully, I’m wrong again and the Chargers had a secret plan for the nose tackle vacancy all along.
Please… Prove me wrong again. I ignored the feeling in the pit of my stomach that the 28th and 40th overall pick scenario was too good to be true. Apparently… It was. It’s going to be difficult enough to replace a nose tackle the caliber of Jamal Williams, but trying to do it with a third round pick will be an incredible challenge.
