The day started out very heavy and somber, stemming from the moment of silence that was help for fallen Bengals Receiver Chris Henry. This sad mood didn’t last long for the chargers.
Darren Sproles started out the game with a 45 yard kick return. This set up a 3 yard touchdown catch by Antonio Gates.
Vincent Jackson had two touchdown catches of 21 and 34 yards and 108 receiving yards. He broke the 1,000 yard mark for the season. He also set a career high 9 TD catches in a season today.
Antonio Gates had only 33 yards and a TD, but each time he caught the ball it was a huge play. He fought and spun for the first down whenever the ball was in his hands.
Malcom Floyd had 63 receiving yards, but his biggest catch was a 15 yarder next to the sideline with :08 Seconds left. This set up a game winning 52 yard field goal.
Philip Rivers threw for 302 yards, 3 TDs, and 2 interceptions. 1 of the interceptions was a mis communication on a slant route where Malcom Floyd turned the opposite direction of where Rivers threw the ball. The other was a freak tip ball off the hands of Gates.
Nate Kaeding Made two field goals. One was from 33 yards out. The other was with :08 seconds left from 52 yards out. He split the middle of the uprights to put the Chargers ahead 27-24.
This win continues the Chargers 9 game winning streak, and 17th consecutive win in December
Overall it was a very strong performance by both teams. The Chargers played very hard the entire game. The San Diego team that I saw today is the team that I can see playing deep into the playoffs.
