Chargers start the 09′ season TONIGHT!

After coming off of a shaky 8-8 season in 08′ and having a great post season run only to lose to the super bowl champs, the San Diego Chargers open the new 09′ season tonight against the Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders have recently entered the controversy spotlight by letting quarterback Jeff Garcia leave per his request. The Raiders look like a mess especially after coming off a sad 5-11 season last year and now undergoing internal problems before their first game with the Chargers.

The Chargers are undergoing their own drama problems with linebacker Shawne Merriman having anger control issues with his girl friend. Merriman will be a free agent after this season and it is reported the Chargers will not sign him after the season because they are un-happy with Merriman’s off turf life.

Although Merriman refuses to grow up, the Chargers are the for sure favorite to make it to the Super Bowl this season with a healthy Shawne Merriman, LaDainian Tomlinson and lightning fast Darren Sproles.

Look for Philip Rivers to pass all over the Raiders this game. He will be the dominant QB of this game and probably the only QB after the departure of Garcia. I think it will take time for LT to get greased to start shreddin’ the yards. This game will be ground controlled by the one and only Sproles picking up solid yardage against a mediocre Raiders Defense.

The Chargers defense should dominate as well with hard hitters Shawne Merriman and Shawn Phillips.

Game starts at 7:15 (PT) in Oakland on ESPN

Predicted Final Score: Chargers 24, Raiders 10

Topics: Antonio Gates, Bolts, Darren Sproles, Ladainian-tomlinson, Phillip Rivers, Shawne Merriman

“Our” Bolts were very fortunate to come away with a win last night after being manhandled for much of the game.

Coming into the season I was confident in a Super Bowl berth, but I’m not so sure anymore. It’s only one game, but a lot of improvement is needed on both sides of the ball.
