Shawne Merriman: Lights Out Decaf?

AUTHOR: Mike Emmons | IN: Chargers, Other/Off-Topic | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

A  fan and follower on Shawne Merriman’s Twitter pointed out an interesting new coffee at a local coffee shop, I’m guessing in San Diego.
The Coffee is called ” Lights Out” but is a decaffeinated coffee. To me, that would be like Merriman crushing a QB and then sprinting to the sideline to hug and kiss a bunny rabbit.
“Lights Out” decaf is sort of an oxy-moron if you will. Now,  I’m a coffee enthusiast and I’d bet that if I were to take a sip of this coffee I’m sure it’s flavor would create a vivid image of Shawne Merriman running [...]

Kevin Ellison is Charged Up!

AUTHOR: Mike Emmons | IN: Breaking News, Chargers, Draft | COMMENTS: None Yet

One of the reasons I love, and I am such a fan of the Chargers is because they sign a lot of my favorite college football players.
The Chargers signed Jacob Hester, a favorite of mine to watch at LSU, in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft and he has already made an impact on the Chargers offense.
Just recently the Chargers have signed 6th round draft pick and a great product of USC, Kevin Ellison to a 4 year contract. After being such a huge Trojan fan, I am very excited about this signing.
Kevin Ellison was one of my [...]

Matt Wilhelm Released

AUTHOR: Johnny Heck | IN: Breaking News, Chargers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Veteran ILB Matt Wilhelm has been released from the San Diego Chargers, according to online reports.
Wilhelm played in S.D. for six seasons. He lost the starting gig to Tim Dobbins last year.
Shawne Merriman and Shaun Phillips are still the force in the linebacker corps, obviously. This isn’t huge news, but it’s only a few days before camp is slated to begin. The roster cut comes as a bit of a surprise.
Speaking of training camp, the rookies report on 7/27, veterans 7/31 at Chargers park in San Diego. If you attend any of the practices, drop us a line!

Shawne Merriman, Shaun Phillips: Twitter Brothers With A Soft Side

AUTHOR: Mike Emmons | IN: Chargers, Other/Off-Topic | COMMENTS: None Yet

Shawne Merriman and Shaun Phillips are monsters on the Chargers defense and we are used to seeing them take out QB after QB, but one side you haven’t seen of these two are there sensitive and elegant “Twitter” sides.

I’ve been following the two linebackers for quite a while now on Twitter and although their tweets consist mostly of working out and energy drinks, they have shown a somewhat softer side. A side they hide underneath their weights and muscles, a side neither of them would like to show their opponents.

I’ve compiled some “rare moment” tweets from Merriman and Phillips [...]

The sharpest tool in the tool box

AUTHOR: Mike Emmons | IN: Chargers, Gameday | COMMENTS: None Yet

Philip Rivers no longer sits at the kids table of the NFL. He has rightfully earned his spot as one of the NFL’s elite QB’s. Rivers has built toughness about him. He’s developed a swagger and has single handedly pulled his team up from the depths of the AFC time and time again.

During the 2008 season Rivers Threw for 4,009 yards and 34 touchdowns with only 11 interceptions. Drew Brees is the only quarterback among the elite to throw as many touchdowns, but with 7 more interceptions.

Rivers is ranked the 5th overall QB in the preseason according to [...]

AUTHOR: Mike Emmons | IN: Breaking News, Chargers, Gameday | COMMENTS: None Yet

Select tickets for the Chargers 2009-10 season games went on sale TODAY!!! What Chargers home games will you attend? I know Denver has a chip on their shoulder from being blown out in the AFC West Championship game last season, so a match up of the two teams could be a spectacle! How about the Chargers vs. Bengals game in week 15? Ochocinco has it out for Merriman and claims the Chargers have no chance against them this season! Watching those two jaw back and forth would provide plenty of entertainment for the whole family!
Let me know which game(s) you [...]

Rivers vs The High School Kid

AUTHOR: Mike Emmons | IN: Chargers, Other/Off-Topic | COMMENTS: None Yet

And the winner is… The high school kid, schooling Phillip Rivers!

“I didn’t know it would be such a big hit,” Rivers laughed. “It was a lot of fun.”

Though Rivers was beat he is still smiling. The “Iron Sharpens Iron QB and Offensive Skills Camp” took place this week and a little guy, Will Nunn from Huntsville, Alabama won it all. Rivers had nothing but good and encouraging words for Nunn but claimed for two days he had told the kids at the camp that the worst throw you can make to a receiver is at their ankles. Yet, he felt [...]

Ol’ Man Tomlinson…

AUTHOR: Mike Emmons | IN: Chargers, NFL | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

LaDainian Tomlinson just turned 30 years old not too long ago and he’s already getting the “over the hill” treatment, but is he ready to kick the bucket? Is he ready to hang up the number 21 jersey he’s run hundreds of hard earned yards in? Can he still keep his membership in the 10 touchdowns a season yacht club? Is there a 10 touchdowns a season yacht club? There should be, because I say, “NAY!” LT is goin’ nowhere and hangin’ up no jersey!
“That’s the one thing that I’m eager to prove, is that doesn’t necessarily go [...]

50 years and Chargin’!

AUTHOR: Mike Emmons | IN: Chargers, NFL | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

50 years ago this season, with the birth of the AFL (American Football League), the Chargers were born. The 2009 season will mark the 50th year Anniversary for the Chargers who started out as the Los Angeles Chargers way back when in 1960.

In 1961 the Chargers moved to San Diego and reached the AFL playoffs 5 times and the AFL Championship 4 times. After beating the Boston Patriots, yeah, I said “Boston Patriots” in 1963 by a whopping 51-10, the San Diego Chargers had won their first Championship in the AFL. There were over 30,127 in attendance that day at [...]

Cutris is in stable condition in the intensive care unit at  Albert Einstein Medical Center. Curtis’s Uncle, Gregory Brinkley, said that Curtis has been able to talk and communicate with his relatives.
Brinkley, who rushed for 1,164 yards and 7 touchdowns in  his last [...]
