Chargers.com has reported speedy all-purpose running back Darren Sproles has been dubbed the teams 2009 Franchise Player.
Sproles can still chat with other teams, but if he signs elsewhere then the Bolts get draft pick consideration. And all things considered, working out a long-term deal will bode well for the team.
LaDainian Tomlinson is still the guy right now, but Sproles is the future. I think he needs to be in a semi-two back system. You need a ground & pounder to smash it in on goal line situations. And if Sproles is going to still be a factor on Special Teams, you need someone else to ease the burden.
In the press release, GM A.J. Smith also stated that the tag has “no impact on the contract status of running back LaDainian Tomlinson.” Anything having to do with Sproles has an impact on L.T., good, bad, or otherwise.
Don’t expect much more until Draft Day.
