Macro
This offense looked fantastic, and it still didn’t have LT. Not only did it not have LT, LT’s backup, Michael Turner went down early and forced Darren Sproles to get more carries than expected. The Chargers offense rolled up 506 net yards on offense, which is among the best in the league this week. The offense also controlled the game, winning Time of Possession 37:55 to 22:05
What is unsettling is that the pass D still looks shakey, as it too saw plenty of passes completed. Leinart, Warner and Boyd went 20-30 for 311 yards, 2 TD and 0 INT.
Special teams were somewhat wreckless as well, giving up a 70-yard return to open the game, putting the Cardinals in business at the Bolts 32. After this, they buckled up and held strong for the remainder.
Micro
Offense
- Philip continues to look fantastic, leading the league in passing for the week, playing 3 quarters with a final line of 20-29, 282 yards and 2 TD.
- The injury to Michael Turner doesn’t seem to be of dire importance.
- Vincent Jackson also continues to impress at 4 catches for 92 yards and 2 TD.
Defense
- As I mentioned early pass coverage needs a lot of cleaning up. Anquan chewed up any Charger DB that came his way in man coverage and found plenty an open space in zone coverages.
- Luis Castillo had an impressive game, forcing a fumble on a sack.
- The scheme of Ted Cottrell has some work to do before the D is ready to go deep in the playoffs.
Developing Themes
- Darren Sproles, scored a TD yet again, seemingly locking up a position on the final roster.
- Philip continues to look razor sharp.
- Pass D is operating at about a C- level.
